YOU ARE NOT ALONE

One of Satan’s greatest deceptions is convincing believers that they are the only ones left.

Elijah stood on Mount Carmel and watched God answer by fire. He saw the prophets of Baal defeated. He witnessed one of the greatest demonstrations of God’s power in Scripture. Yet only one chapter later, he sat beneath a juniper tree and declared, “I, even I only, am left” (1 Kings 19:10).

Elijah was not suffering from a lack of evidence. He was suffering from a lack of perspective.

God answered him with words that still confront believers today:

“Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal” (1 Kings 19:18).

Elijah thought the remnant was one man. God said it was seven thousand.

Never Underestimate God

The same mistake is often made when people read the New Testament. Many speak as though Jesus only had twelve followers because they confuse the apostles with the disciples. The twelve were apostles, but the disciples were a host.

Jesus sent seventy disciples into the cities (Luke 10:1). One hundred and twenty gathered in the upper room before Pentecost (Acts 1:15). More than five hundred brethren witnessed His resurrection according to Paul (1 Corinthians 15:6). Multitudes followed Him throughout Galilee and Judea (Matthew 4:25; Luke 6:17).

What appeared small was larger than people realized.

The Narrow Way Still Has a Host

This is why God reveals Himself as Jehovah Sabaoth, the LORD of Hosts. The word hosts speaks of armies, companies, multitudes, and heavenly forces. God has never been the Lord of a few. He is the Lord of hosts.

The enemy wants you to believe that nobody else seeks holiness. Nobody else prays. Nobody else loves truth. Nobody else refuses to bow to the gods of this age.

But Elijah was wrong. The disciples were more numerous than people realized. And perhaps you are wrong as well.

The Enemy Wants You Alone

You are not alone. There are still believers who refuse compromise, who love truth, who seek God’s presence, and who have not bowed their knees to Baal.

The God of hosts has always preserved His people, even when His people could not interact or see one another.

“Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.” (2 Kings 6:16)
