THE STORY BEHIND WHY THE DEVIL HATES YOU

Why would a spiritual being who existed before you were born care whether you obey God, understand Scripture, or fulfill your purpose?

To answer that question, we have to understand the story behind the story.

The Bible begins with: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth” (Genesis 1:1).

But that is not the beginning of God. And it is not the beginning of the angelic realm either.

When God described the creation of the earth to Job, He said:

“Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth?… When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?” (Job 38:4, 7).

Before Adam stood on the earth, heavenly beings watched God establish it.

But somewhere in the story, rebellion entered the heavenly realm.

Revelation describes “war in heaven,” with Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon and his angels, identifying the dragon as “that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan” (Revelation 12:7–9).

So when we arrive at Genesis 3 and find the serpent already in the garden opposing God’s Word, we are stepping into a conflict that did not begin with Adam and Eve.

Humanity walked into a war already in progress. And then God revealed something extraordinary about us:

“Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion…” (Genesis 1:26).

There are two words the enemy cannot ignore: IMAGE and DOMINION.

We were created to bear the image of God. This is where we begin to understand why the devil hates us.

His hatred of humanity is ultimately connected to his rebellion against God.

You bear the image of the One he hates. And once you understand that, Genesis 3 becomes much more than a story about forbidden fruit.

Instead of a fairy tale or mystical narrative about apples and garden snakes, Adam and Eve’s encounter becomes our first glimpse of spiritual warfare on earth.

And that warfare has taken on new dimensions—and it is far from over.

Reflect

Days 1–2
  • What line from this lesson is God pressing on your heart?
  • Where might pride, fear, or distraction be resisting obedience?
Days 3–4
  • Which scripture references will you re-read slowly in context this week?
  • Who needs an encouraging word rooted in what you learned?
Days 5–7
  • What is one concrete step of obedience you will take?
  • How will you remember this lesson after the week ends?

Respond

HEAR AND OBEY

Lord, thank You for this week’s word. Shape my heart by Scripture, not by noise or status. Where I have chased recognition, return me to simple obedience. Let the truth I have read bear fruit in love and humility. Amen.

Walk it out

  • Re-read one key passage from this lesson in the KJV, in full context.
  • Share one sentence of encouragement with another believer.
  • Take one quiet act of obedience you have been postponing.
  • Pray briefly each morning: “Lord, let Your word rule my choices today.”

Commit thy way unto the Lord.
