SPEAKING THE TRUTH IS NOT CRUELTY—IT’S A REQUIREMENT

One of the greatest deceptions of our generation is confusing love with silence. Jesus never did.

He welcomed sinners, but He never affirmed sin. He showed compassion without compromising truth. His love was never separated from holiness.

Scripture commands us to speak “the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15). Notice it does not tell us to choose between truth and love. Biblical love speaks truth because it loves.

Silence may feel kind in the moment, but if it allows someone to continue walking toward destruction, it is not biblical love. It is misplaced compassion.

The world often calls correction judgment. God calls faithful correction love.

“Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.” (Proverbs 27:6)

Jesus did not die merely to make us comfortable. He died to make us holy.

Truth may wound our pride, but it heals our souls. A gospel that never confronts sin is not the gospel Jesus preached. He proclaimed: “Repent ye, and believe the gospel” (Mark 1:15).

“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do” (John 8:44).

“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites” (Matthew 23:13–29)!

“Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matthew 25:41).

“I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity” (Matthew 7:23).

“Get thee behind me, Satan” (Matthew 16:23).

“Ye fools and blind” (Matthew 23:17).

“Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell” (Matthew 23:33)?

“If thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out… and if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off” (Matthew 5:29–30).

“Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3).

“How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only” (John 5:44)?

Never use truth as an excuse to be harsh. Never use love as an excuse to hide the truth.

Christ did neither. If Jesus is your Lord, then speaking the truth is not cruelty. It’s a requirement.

Reflect

Days 1–2
  • What line from this lesson is God pressing on your heart?
  • Where might pride, fear, or distraction be resisting obedience?
Days 3–4
  • Which scripture references will you re-read slowly in context this week?
  • Who needs an encouraging word rooted in what you learned?
Days 5–7
  • What is one concrete step of obedience you will take?
  • How will you remember this lesson after the week ends?

Respond

SEEK HIS FACE

Lord, thank You for this week’s word. Shape my heart by Scripture, not by noise or status. Where I have chased recognition, return me to simple obedience. Let the truth I have read bear fruit in love and humility. Amen.

Walk it out

  • Re-read one key passage from this lesson in the KJV, in full context.
  • Share one sentence of encouragement with another believer.
  • Take one quiet act of obedience you have been postponing.
  • Pray briefly each morning: “Lord, let Your word rule my choices today.”

The Lord is good.

PSALM 100:5
