There is a reason Jesus did not say, “Wait for them to come.” He said, “Go.” “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations…” (Matthew 28:19). That command was never about convenience. It was about compassion.
Let’s make this plain. Going is not strategy. It’s love in motion. God never designed the gospel to sit inside buildings while people sit outside broken. From the very beginning, God has always moved toward people, not away from them. “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me” (John 12:32).
But how does He draw? Through us. Through real people with real steps, real sacrifice, and real obedience. Because love doesn’t sit back and wait. Love goes and gets people.
Because Some Won’t Come
Let’s be honest, some people are not coming to “Church.” Not because they don’t need God, but because what they experienced in religious organizations didn’t look like Him.
Some were hurt. Some were ignored. Some were judged instead of helped. Some were broken in the very place that was supposed to heal them.
And others just don’t want to come because:
- They like their sin too much to let it go
- They want comfort, not conviction
- They want quick results, not real change
- They’ve built their own version of Christianity that doesn’t require surrender
So instead of running to God, they run from anything that reminds them of Him. That’s real. And we can’t ignore that.
Because Some Can’t Come
Then there are people who can’t come, even if they wanted to.
- The elderly sitting in rooms waiting on someone to visit
- The sick laying in hospital beds
- Children and families navigating disabilities
- People who don’t have rides, money, or support
- Those locked behind prison walls
- The exhausted, the forgotten, the overlooked
They are not staying away because they don’t care. They are staying away because they don’t have access. And God has not forgotten them, even when the super religious judges them. So, neither can we.
So, We Go
This is why Jesus said, “Go.” Not just across the world on acceptable missions’ trips, also across the street. Across your comfort. Across your excuses. We go into homes, hospitals, schools, streets, prisons, and living rooms. We go anywhere people are hurting, searching, or stuck.
Because if we don’t go, some people will never hear. And if they never hear, they may never know who God really is. And let’s go even deeper, some people are already sitting in church every week and still don’t know Him. They are present but not transformed. Around truth but not living it.
Gathering Is Not the Goal
Somewhere along the way, we made “church” attendance the finish line. But it’s not. Yes, the Bible says, “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together” (Hebrews 10:25). We are supposed to gather. But gathering is not the assignment, it’s the recharge, and not in a specific location.
The assembly is where we get filled. Going is where we pour out. The gathering is a celebration, not the conclusion. Jesus never told us to build a life around sitting; He told us to build a life around going. If all we do is show up to “church,” but never show up for people, we are celebrating something we’re not actually living.
Love That Leads the Way
“With lovingkindness have I drawn thee” (Jeremiah 31:3). People are not moved by pressure. They are moved by love. Real love. Love that listens. Love that shows up. Love that doesn’t run from messy situations. When we go, we’re not just delivering information; we’re revealing God.
The Responsibility of Revelation
Everybody talks about wanting change. But very few people move. We keep asking God to do something, and He keeps looking at us like, “I told you to go.” The Great Commission is not optional. It’s not just for pastors or leaders. It’s for every single believer.
You might be the only Bible someone ever reads. The only sermon they ever hear. The only picture of Jesus they ever see. That’s not pressure, that’s purpose. So, stop waiting for people to come.
Some won’t. Some can’t. And some are waiting on you and don’t even know it yet. Go to the one who avoids “church.” Go to the one who can’t leave their situation. Go to the one nobody else is checking on. Go with patience. Go with power. Go with purity. Go with love.
And let’s be clear, going is not about being deep, loud, or impressive. It’s about being present. It’s about loving people where they are. Sometimes going looks like a conversation with someone who doesn’t even believe in God. Sometimes it looks like helping your enemy or your neighbor who doesn’t like you. Sometimes it looks like just sitting with someone who feels alone.
But whatever you do, don’t overthink this into disobedience. You don’t need a platform. You don’t need a title. And you certainly don’t need permission. You already have the command.
So don’t delay. Don’t make excuses. Don’t wait for a “better time.” There’s no better time than the present. Do it now. Just go.
moment: be still, and invite the Lord to apply what you have read.

Reflect
Days 1–2
- What line from this lesson is God pressing on your heart?
- Where might pride, fear, or distraction be resisting obedience?
Days 3–4
- Which scripture references will you re-read slowly in context this week?
- Who needs an encouraging word rooted in what you learned?
Days 5–7
- What is one concrete step of obedience you will take?
- How will you remember this lesson after the week ends?
Respond
ABIDE IN HIM
Lord, thank You for this week’s word. Shape my heart by Scripture, not by noise or status. Where I have chased recognition, return me to simple obedience. Let the truth I have read bear fruit in love and humility. Amen.
Walk it out
- Re-read one key passage from this lesson in the KJV, in full context.
- Share one sentence of encouragement with another believer.
- Take one quiet act of obedience you have been postponing.
- Pray briefly each morning: “Lord, let Your word rule my choices today.”
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.
