Michal, the daughter of Saul, was David's first Bride before he became king. She is rarely discussed in sermons, theology, or popular Bible studies, yet her story carries a warning the body of Christ cannot ignore.
"And Michal the daughter of Saul loved David…" (1 Samuel 18:20)
Her story began with love, genuine, real, active, and courageous. She risked everything to save David, helping him escape through a window while defying her father's soldiers (1 Samuel 19:11–12). But her life became a solemn reminder that loving the Messiah once is not the same as staying near His heart forever.
She was given to another man, later returned to David, and remained childless (2 Samuel 6:23). She watched the king she once loved celebrate before the Lord. Her heart hardened, standing at a window instead of rejoicing with him. Her story is sad and forgotten because it holds no triumph, no reconciliation, and no voice — leaving her as a haunting symbol of a failed test of devotion.
Michal loved the King when He was nothing, just like some people love the version of Jesus they want Him to be. But when He moved boldly for the Lord, she stepped back, hands off, heart hardened, watching Him from a distance. Isn't it crazy how some people love you more when you're broke, broken, and busted? That's the trap: starting with God, thinking you ride with Him, then hating His ways when He does things His way, not yours. That's why "familiar spirits" are dangerous because they place limitations on you with low expectations instead of celebrating your wins!
Don't just watch Christ from the sidelines. Step in. Win souls. Fight the good fight. Get real with Him. Michal never gave birth to a child, and you will never give birth to your ministry, your vision, or your full potential if you stay on the sidelines. What are you doing for God's kingdom? What are you doing to impact the Body of Christ? Either you love Him in theory, or you love Him with your whole heart. The choice is yours, it's one or the other.
Michal loved the King when He was nothing — but when He moved boldly, she stepped back. Don't be like Michal, watching from the sidelines. Step in. Fight the good fight. Win souls. Love Christ with your whole heart, or you'll never birth your purpose, ministry, vision, or your potential. The choice is yours — stay on the sidelines or put your faith in action.
