One thing is needful.

Life is loud. If it’s not one thing, it’s another — needs, worries, distractions pulling at our attention. But Jesus gently reminds us, “Martha, Martha… you are troubled about many things, but ONE thing is needful.” And He points Martha to Mary, who chose to sit at His feet.
Jesus speaks

In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee. And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.3.6 mercy: or, bounty And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in. And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?3.9 understanding: Heb. hearing And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. Reflect
Days 1–2
- What “many things” are pulling at you right now?
- Where have you been trying to carry what only His presence can order?
Days 3–4
- Where are you trying to fix instead of asking God for direction?
- What would it look like to seek Him for “one thing” this week?
Days 5–7
- What are you willing to lay down so Christ can be central?
- What is one moment this week where you will intentionally sit at His feet?
Respond
SOUND THE ALARM
Lord Jesus, quiet the noise in my mind. Bring me back to the one thing You are calling me to: sitting at Your feet in stillness. Teach me to inquire, not rush — seek You, surrender my agenda, and receive Your will. Let Christ alone increase in me this week.
Walk it out
- Choose one distraction to deny this week and replace it with a one-thing moment.
- Keep one prayer-time alarm each day and stop to seek God immediately.
- Pray one short sentence with another disciple this week in agreement.
- Return to Luke 10:41–42 and ask, “What is the one thing for me today?”
